Newcastle reject another Bayern Munich bid for Trippier

Having tried and failed to sign him on loan first, Bayern have now offered nearly £13m for the England defender in a second cash bid

Newcastle United have rejected a second bid from Bayern Munich for England international Kieran Trippier and are adamant he is not for sale this month.
Having failed an offer of around £8 million to sign the 33-year-old on a permanent basis on Saturday, Bayern made another approach on Monday. The bid, worth just under £13 million, was rejected by the Newcastle board.
Telegraph Sport revealed on Sunday that Trippier had been informed he was not for sale and he, in turn, assured the Newcastle hierarchy he was happy to remain on Tyneside.
Telegraph Sport understands Newcastle have repeated their stance that Trippier is not for sale this month, but believe there could be a third offer from Bayern before the close of the window.
Newcastle believe Bayern are hoping to unsettle the former Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid defender in the hope he will agitate to leave.
The Bundesliga club would give Newcastle a difficult decision to make if they were to submit an offer around the £20 million mark but that would be a hugely inflated price for a 33-year-old who only has 18 months left on his contract.
Bayern have also been trying to sign Paris St-Germain right back Nordi Mukiele this month but talks have not progressed with the French club. Some suspect the very public pursuit of an alternative in Trippier is partly motivated by a desire to bring PSG back to the table.
Meanwhile, Miguel Almirón is understood to be hesitant about making a move to Saudi Arabia if Newcastle do agree a fee with one of the clubs who have expressed an interest in signing him.
Whether that remains the case if Newcastle say they have accepted an offer remains to be seen, although they are unlikely to do so unless they are certain they can use the money to bring someone in before Wednesday’s deadline.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign highly rated teenager midfield Alfie Harrison from Manchester City. The 18-year-old has agreed a long term contract and will initially go into the club’s development squad.
